Car has trouble starting (but does); however, does not reach over 500 rpm then stalls. Problem?

The screeching noise concerns me. Check the oil level in your car. If there's no oil in the car it will stop. I know this sounds obvious but I have seen it happen to a guy when he forgot to put the new oil in during an oil change. And yes he did feel pretty stupid about this.
