After driving for a few minutes my 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic will stop accelerating?

it will stop accelerating and it will idle and putter then end with a few knocks then it will jump up and and accelerate and i can continue to drive with no problems but it does this every time i drive. also it only happens when its warm outside durring the winter i wont have this problem. can anyone help??? please and thank you!
